The Closure of the PCR-RCP Canada
The Revolutionary Communist Party of Canada has announced that it's closing its doors and disbanding. This is somewhat disheartening because they were the only radical alternative in Canada. Both the Communist Party of Canada and Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada are both Euro-Com parties that explicitly reject revolution by virtue of their unwillingness to support radical action, and affirmation that they can win in elections when it has already been proven that the Canadian political system will fabricate evidence to overthrow any elected communist parliamentarian. (See: Fred Rose)
Having said that, the former party acknowledges the mistakes they’ve made, the “PCR-RCP and its members have committed many errors and learned many lessons in its history.” However, they do not specify what these errors are. I’d criticize some of their members for frequently engaging in infantile wrecking activity, particularly those in the UOttawa Marxist Students' Association in 2013. A clear listing of their acknowledged errors would be appropriate.
The RCP had failed to reach the Canadian “masses” in which to spur revolutionary support. It should be clear that there is no base of support for radical action outside of the decolonization movement in Canada. The mainstream Canadian is largely content with the current political-economic system. Despite having very clear grievances, these Canadians have shown no desire to break with mainstream electoral politics. The RCP cannot be held accountable for this lack of significant revolutionary potential. They can be held accountable for refusing to acknowledge it.
I, however, must personally thank the RCP for their former party programme. It helped me understand the struggles of the First Nations people. It openly recognized that the Quebecois are oppressors just as much as the Anglophone sphere. They explicitly rejected Quebecois capital which is the correct position to take, which is ignored by much of the left. It was particularly their programme that steered me towards Marxism-Leninism-Maoism.
The dissolution of the RCP was inevitable. Not by their actions, but by the material conditions of Canada and the reality of the global class divide.
I fully support the reformation of a new party with a corrected line that forwards the interests of the oppressed groups in Canada and around the world.
